• GHA operates Intermediate Care Facilities for Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR) and Developmentally Disabled group homes, as well as managing a supervised Apartment program.

• A Day Services facility provides structured vocational training as well as art, music, and sensory therapy for adolescents and adults. This weekday program enables participants to enjoy a variety of activities designed to increase their individual skill level.

• The Supported Employment Program provides individualized job assessment and training services. Once employed, job-coaching staff provide specialized supervision to ensure each client's success.

• The Community Services Program provides non-resident individuals with access to our Day Services program along with scheduled activities and outings in their homes and in the community.

  1. An Autistic Classroom for children is operated in a public school setting through a contract with the Stanly County School system. This year-round program utilizes the TEACCH model of instruction with emphasis on individualized plans for each participant.

“Autism: Our Family’s Surprising Journey”

Dwayne Ballen is a television journalist with over twenty years of television industry experience. Mr. Ballen is currently a member of ESPNU’s college football and basketball announce teams as well as CEO and Creative Director of Ballen Media. Previously he spent five years with CBS Sports as a member of the network’s college football and college basketball announce teams and has served as host of the CBS Sports Spectacular.  His prior experience included being a studio host for both Fox Sports News and the Golf Channel and he was the sports anchor and reporter for WTVD in Durham, NC.  Regarded as an outstanding host and interviewer, his work has earned him high praise and numerous honors, including two associated press awards for sports journalism. Mr. Ballen has donated his time and talent to numerous charitable and service organizations, including The Jupiter Ball, The Autism Society of North Carolina, Delta Sigma Theta, The Dewayne Washington Foundation, The LeRoy Walker Sports Leadership Institute, John Avery Boys and Girls Club, Hoops for Homeless, The Durham School of the Arts, and the North Carolina Theatre Company. He resides in Durham, NC with his wife Martina, who is a senior athletic administrator at UNC-Chapel Hill, and their two sons Julian (14) and Jared (12).


Proceeds from this fundraising luncheon will benefit GHA, Inc., a non-profit organization providing quality services to individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
