Carolina Farms

On June 2, 2003 GHA, Inc. began construction on Carolina Farms, a new and innovative program in Albemarle, North Carolina that will enable additional individuals from the autistic population to realize a dream of living and working in a farming environment in beautiful Stanly County.

Carolina Farms will be used as a state, national and international site for professionals to conduct training and studies of treatment methods and data collection on autism. It will be affiliated with the Division TEACCH (Treatment and Education for Autistic and related Communication handicapped Children) Program at the University of North Carolina.

Carolina Farms was developed in three phases with the final phase being completed in November 2005. Each phase involved the construction of a five-bed group home along with additional facilities that will encompass the vocational aspects of life on the farm. Additional facilities for the Farm include a potting building, barn, multi-purpose building and greenhouses.

Carollina Farms Phase 1 admitted its first residents on 1/20/04 and was certified as an Intermediate Care Facility on 2/24/04;  The second home on the site admitted its first residents on 8/23/04 and was certified as an Intermediate Care Facility on 9/1/04. Carolina Farms 3 was certified as an Intermediate Care Facility on 11/15/05. Currently, Carolina Farms supports fifteen clients.
